Day trading / scan

Chart Scanner

Scans thousands of US charts for opening-range breakouts, flags and oversold bounces.

Builds a US-listed symbol universe from Nasdaq Trader, runs a pre-market daily scan and an intraday opening-range breakout scan on 5-minute bars, then writes trader/watchlist.json for the next skill in the chain.

Overview

What Chart Scanner actually does

The Chart Scanner is the first step of a day trade. It reads free Yahoo Finance charts for thousands of US-listed common stocks, ordinary shares and ADRs, then lists only the charts that match a written rule: 20-day closing-high breakouts, bull flags, reclaimed 20-day averages, oversold conditions and oversold bounces.

It is a list of charts that match a rule, not a list of stocks to buy. Every setup is written to trader/watchlist.json with the numbers behind it, so the news, entry and time-machine skills work from the same facts instead of a screenshot.

Capabilities

What it helps your agent ship

Build a clean US symbol universe from Nasdaq Trader directories.

Run a pre-market daily scan across the whole universe.

Find opening-range breakouts on 5-minute bars.

Detect bull flags, 20-day high breakouts and reclaimed averages.

Surface oversold names and oversold bounce candidates.

Write a shared watchlist with the rule and the numbers that fired.

Workflow

The process the skill follows

A repeatable sequence keeps the agent from jumping straight into edits before it understands the job.

  1. 01

    Build the universe

Pull US-listed common stocks, ordinary shares and ADRs from Nasdaq Trader, then cache the list.

  2. 02

    Run the daily scan

Check daily closes for the pre-market setups before the opening bell.

  3. 03

    Scan the open

After 9:50 AM ET, scan 5-minute bars for opening-range breakouts.

  4. 04

    Pin the clock

Use --at or --now to cut the scan at an exact New York time so the result is repeatable.

  5. 05

    Write the watchlist

Save trader/watchlist.json for the news, entry and time-machine skills.

Inside the pack

References and modules

These are the load-on-demand files or command groups that make the skill useful beyond a single prompt.

scan.py universe

About 5,900 US symbols from Nasdaq Trader.

scan.py daily

Pre-market setups across the whole universe.

scan.py orb --at 10:15

Opening-range breakouts up to a pinned time.

--watchlist FILE

Rescan a shortlist instead of the whole market.

--offline PATH

Replay fixtures without touching the network.

--json

Machine-readable output for the rest of the chain.

Use cases

Where it earns its place

Morning prep

Build a shortlist before the open instead of watching thousands of tickers.

Opening-range session

Find names that closed above their first 15-minute range.

Watchlist review

Re-scan a saved shortlist with fresh bars during the session.

Prompt starters

Try one of these first

Copy a prompt into your agent. Replace the example URL with your own project or page.

Prompt

Scan the US market for opening-range breakouts at 10:15 AM New York time.

Prompt

Build my watchlist from the pre-market daily scan and show the setups that fired.

Prompt

Re-scan trader/watchlist.json now and tell me which names still qualify.
